Snoop Dogg Is Back On Death Row Records, But As It’s Owner

(HOLLYWOOD, CA) Music News: (Article By Ken Brooks) Hip Hop Legend Snoop Dogg has been a pillar of pop culture for so long that he seems far removed from his origins at this point.. But the rapper got his start as part of the influential Death Row record label, and now, he’s back in business with it…as the owner. Snoop has purchased Death Row from MNRK Music Group, a full circle moment for the rapper who released his debut album, Doggystyle, on the label in 1993.

“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value,” Snoop said in a press statement. “​It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me.

”Snoop is commemorating the occasion with the release of *B.O.D.R.–Bacc on Death Row–*which will be his nineteenth studio album. The revitalized Death Row will also be getting into the world of NFTs, including some that will be released through a blockchain gaming company and contain exclusive Snoop tracks.

Snoop has previously expressed interest in owning the label. In December he told FCNTV “I went looking for this job because I wanted to be the CEO of Death Row Records and basically take over the merchandise and rerelease their music, do documentaries, and possibly do my life story.” But then owners ended up snubbing Snoop in favor of the Blackstone Group. “The man in me was hurt, but the businessman in me said, Okay, I got to find something else to do to take this energy of mine that I’m holding on to,” Snoop said, alluding to his new position at Def Jam as an executive creative consultant.
