Prior to filming, which was intended to start in winter 2022, producers requested that all cast receive a COVID-19 vaccine. The studio is reportedly looking for a replacement for Ice Cube, who would have been paid $9 million for the role. Throughout the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Ice Cube has promoted mask-wearing and was one of several people who donated 2,000 face masks to Bacone College in Oklahoma. He also partnered with the manufacturer Black Out on a line of pro-mask t-shirts, where all proceeds went towards frontline health workers.
